Artist Spotlight: Xaphoon Jones

17 May

As a relatively new producer, Xaphoon Jones has quickly made a name for himself. He remixes samples to create tracks that are invigoratingly new, fresh, and o’ so delectable.

——————————————————————————————————————————

With a few exceptions (i.e. the Beatles vs. Shaggy mash up) I usually hate it when artists try to remix old school classics with contemporary music. To be blunt, most artists who attempt it normally ruin the timelessly pleasing sound of the original, all just to make a track that sounds like shit. After repeatedly listening to everything Xaphoon Jones has produced, I’d have to say that he is a huge exception to this rule. He has my full approval to sample any classic he likes.

You Need – Xaphoon Jones

This track is just one of many examples. In it, Xaphoon Jones expertly blends the classic rock sound of Led Zepplin’s “Whole Lotta Love” to complement the contemporary rap of Clipse’s “What Happened to That Boy.”

——————————————————————————————————————————

For those of you that know and love Chiddy Bang, Xaphoon Jones is the producer and sampling mastermind behind the group. On top of Chiddy Bang, Xaphoon Jones produces for artists such as Darwin Deez and Tennis Brown.

Fresh Like Us (Xaphoon Jones Remix Feat. Theodore Grams) – Chiddy Bang

This is one of the tracks produced for Chiddy Bang not on the Air Swell mixtape we previously posted about (if you don’t have it yet, click here to go back to that post and download it). The track samples Ce Jeu by Yelle.

I don’t even like French and I still think its awesome.

——————————————————————————————————————————

Testify – Xaphoon Jones

This track blends two sounds you wouldn’t expect: “Diamonds” by Kanye West with “Reckoner” by Radiohead. In my opinion, Xaphoon Jones’ ability to produce unconventional mash ups such as this serves as a huge testament to his brilliance as a producer. He has an ear that allows him to choose samples to blend that most people wouldn’t recognize, and the talent to do so well.

——————————————————————————————————————————

Simply put, Xaphoon Jones is one of the best upcoming producers around. If you don’t have it yet, click here to download the Xaphoon Jones Mixtape vol. 1 off mediafire. Be on the look out for Xaphoon Jones Mixtape vol. 2 which is in the works and sure to impress.

Fireflies

24 Apr

The White Panda kills it in this Remix. “Fireflies Goin Down” featuring the beat of Owl City’s “Fireflies” and the vocals from Yung Joc’s “Goin Down.” The White Panda took two pretty good songs and mashed them into one awesome remix that blows both originals out of the water.

Here is another great mashup by the duo, that is new as of last week, it features Outkast and Fatboy Slim.
