Iration

21 Jul

Playing August 4th at the US Open of Surfing in Hunting Beach, Iration is a well known Reggae/Rock/Dub band out of Hawaii. Probably best known in the West Coast; they are a dirty group that deserves much more recognition across the Map.

Here are a few tracks off their EP albums Sample This and New Roots released in 2008

Artist Spotlight: K’naan

12 Apr

K’naan is a reggae influenced Somali-Canadian rapper. With lyrics focusing on peace and freedom, he’s kind of a modern day Bob Marley of sorts, except without as many ganja references.

Wavin’ Flag – K’naan

Wavin’ Flag is the anthem for the upcoming 2010 FIFA World Cup, and the track is what initially gained K’naan major international attention. This is the original version, the actual anthem being used by FIFA for the World Cup includes lyrics by  Spanish pop artist David Bisbal.

In The Beginning – K’naan

“In The Beginning” highlights K’naan’s reggae influenced style.

Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right (Bob Dylan Remix) – J. Period & K’naan

This track is off “The Messagers,” a three volume remix project released by J. Period and K’naan at the end of 2009. Each volume pays tribute to one music icon: Fela Kuti, Bob Marley, and Bob Dylan. Download the entire album here:jperiod.com/knaanpr

Another One for the Road – Home T, Cocoa Tea, & Cutty Ranks

It just occurred to me that I have only posted one song of the reggae genre so i felt that it was my responsibility to find a dope mellow reggae song in order to represent one of my favorite genres of music. Luckily i recently stumbled upon a dope song called “Another One for the Road” by Home T, Cocoa Tea, and Cutty Ranks. I love how the collaboration of their unique voices creates a very chill relaxing vibe.
